 Wake up and be real

The Indonesian parliamentary election hooplas are over .  It is a feat in itself that Indonesia (read: Indonesian voters)   could reach this level of maturity, considering that we started learning it only 10 years ago.    Voters are getting smarter, and non-voters are also growing in numbers.   They realize now that SBY is the man; and barring some miracle most probably he will be reelected again in the next presidential election in July.  Obviously, the losers get envious, and the press is gullible to explore this to the maximum effects.   All of a sudden the losing parties are acting like a teenage reaching puberty.  They become intimidating, cranky, irrational, and some even got whacked so hard they went   completely out of mind.   Out of desperation,   some even resort to Facebook  to support their candidate to the VP post.   To this end the press also acted as expected:  It is news that matter, forget being silly.

I am more concerned with (still) the problem at hand, namely unemployment.   The figure above is one year old; before the word crisis.  Now with the whole world economy going south; go figure what the economic burden the 65.3 million (and declining) have in their shoulders.

Informal sector like the “warung” above are the resilient bumper of the Indonesian economy.  Somebody needs to prick a needle to those mentally sleeping candidates now busy bickering, and wake them up to what kind of employment mess they have at hand.  Actually, whoever gets the presidential or vice-presidential seat has to learn from   Robin from Minneapolis.  She is a no-nonsense lady who advertised her own husband to get him a job.  Some said that it is   way too crude, but I don’t share the optimism of the politicians.  We should do the same, if not more.  Our unemployment is real and the resulting effects too telling to be ignored.
